What is this?

Arnimo is a mobile app that allows the user to choose a virtual animal companion and communicate with others through their companion. The app is designed to help children in hospitals communicate with others. Users are first presented with a list of animals to choose from. Once their virtual companion is created, the user can play with it virtually through AR using their device camera. Whether it is to feed or to pet, the companion will act accordingly. With the app, the user can see other people’s companions on a local map. Tapping on a nearby companion allows the two users to communicate with each other through a chat box. Moreover, the app has a chatbot to have a conversation with the child.

What was your role in the team?

I created the mockup using Adobe XD and designed the whole UI and UX for the mobile app. I also worked on all of the backend parts of the project by using Microsoft Azure web server and APIs (Maps, Cosmos DB).

How was this built?

  • React Native + Expo for developing the mobile app.
  • Microsoft Azure App Service for the server.
  • Microsoft Azure Maps for displaying the local map.
  • Microsoft Cosmos DB for the database.
  • Microsoft Text-to-Speect for our chatbot TTS capability.
  • Adobe XD for UI mockup.
